Try these ideas!

• Look at the cover. Does the picture on the cover catch your eye? Remember, though, don't always judge a book by it's cover.

• Read the summary of the book on the back or on the inside of the book. Does the book sound like something you would like to read?
• Take a look at the illustrations and the text of the book. Do the words and pictures seem interesting?
• Look at the books on the cart waiting to be shelved. You will find some great choices here that other students in your classroom have already enjoyed.
• Look at the new book displays or the seasonal displays on the shelves. These displays change often. You're bound to find great books here!
• Ask the librarian. She would be glad to make some suggestions!
• Look around and see what books your friends are reading. Ask them for some good book suggestions.
• Think about some books your teachers have shared in class. Maybe you would like to reread one.
• Who is your favorite author(s)? Check out some other books written by them.
• What are your hobbies and interests? Look for books about these topics.
• If you like non-fiction books on certain subjects, look for chapter books about them. For example, if you like non-fiction books about dogs, check out our Dog-Napped Series in the fiction section.
• Browse the online catalog using your favorite subjects, hobbies, or interests as key-word or subject searches.
• Try the Reading Lists and Book Selection Websites tab on the library webpage for great book reviews and websites featuring all sorts of great books!
• Don't forget to use a shelf marker. You know how frustrating it can be when the book you are looking for is not in the right spot. Mark the place you took the book from with the shelf marker so that you can make sure to put the book back in the correct place on the bookshelf!
